Business College to Host
Bachman Book Series Tuesday, October
23
 The Executive Leadership
Institute (ELI) of the College of Business Administration is proud
to present the Bachmann Book Series from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 23 in the
Millennium Student Center. The book series will be held each fall
and feature John Bachmann, senior partner of Edward Jones as
facilitator. During the Oct. 23 program, Bachmann will interview
Fred Reichheld, Harvard professor and author of the bestseller, "The
Ultimate Question," and Andrew C. Taylor, chairman and C.E.O. of
Enterprise Rent-a-Car. The event is free and open to the public.

Get Your Tickets: UMSL vs. SLU Exhibition
Game Friday, November 2
 Join alumni and fans for the
third annual UMSL vs. SLU pre-season exhibition basketball game. The
event will take place Friday, Nov. 2, at ScottTrade Center. The
women's team will tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at
7:30 p.m. A reception will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the
14th & Clark restaurant. This event is free and open
to UMSL alumni, students and staff. (There will be a cash bar at the
reception.) Tickets are limited. To reserve your tickets, contact

UMSL Honors
Distinguished Alumni

The
2007 Founder's Dinner was held Sept. 25 at the Ritz Carlton St.
Louis, during which the Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to
five outstanding UMSL alumni. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the
Alumni Association's highest honor, and is presented annually to
recognize exemplary achievements by UMSL alumni. This year's
honorees include: David Balota (B.A. psychology '76), Rex Carter
(B.S.B.A. accounting '89); Jerry Evensky (B.S.Ed. secondary
education '73, M.A. economics '79), Martin Mlynczak (B.S. physics
'81) and Margaret O'Dell (B.A. history '76).
College of Optometry Receives
Award
 The College of Optometry at the
University of Missouri-St. Louis was honored Sept. 15 at the
Institute for Family Medicine's second annual Salute to Community
Champions Dinner. The college was one of five recipients of the 2007
Community Champion Award. "The Community Champion Award is a tribute
to the exemplary clinical care provided by our dedicated faculty,
students and staff," said Dr. Larry Davis, dean of the College of
Optometry at UMSL. "That care is provided not only within our
college-operated centers, but also within numerous other healthcare
facilities throughout St. Louis."
Music Alumnus Brian Owens makes Sheldon
Debut
 It was standing room only on
October 9 at the Sheldon Concert Hall for the debut of UMSL music
alumnus Brian Owens. At age 27, Owens has earned a reputation as one
of the most promising young vocalists on today's music scene, and
has already shared the stage with notable performers such as Peter
Marten, Christine Brewer and Peter Mayer. His latest effort,
"Experience the Soul," is designed to
reconnect the traditional roots of African-American music and
contemporary culture.
Jennifer Black joins Alumni Relations Staff
 The UMSL Office of Alumni Relations
recently welcomed Jennifer Black as its new assistant director of
alumni activities. A native of St. Louis, Jennifer has held prior
positions with Fontbonne University and the Kay Group. In her new
role, she will be working to design and direct outreach programs for
students, young alumni, and the association's AlumNet Mentoring
program. "I'm really impressed with the warm welcome I've received
from the staff, students and alumni," she says. "I look forward to
the year ahead and to engaging as many UMSL alumni as I can."
