UM-St. Louis Alumni News
March, 2008
Brought to you by the University of Missouri-St. Louis Alumni Association
SHOW YOUR UMSL PRIDE
Great news...we're #1.
For a third year running, the UMSL Alumni Association has been ranked as the Largest College and University Alumni Group in St. Louis by the St. Louis Business Journal! The University of Missouri-St. Louis has produced more than 72,000 graduates nationwide, and nearly 70% of our alumni continue to live, work, and thrive in the St. Louis metropolitan area. That translates into a powerful alumni network that keeps St. Louis moving. Why not tap into it?
This month, I challenge each of you to reach out to those in your workplaces, families, and communities to share your unique UMSL story. Chances are, you'll connect with other UMSL graduates (or current students) that you may have not known. And, if you haven't been back to campus-- now is the time. Tour the campus, visit the new Millennium Student Center, purchase an alumni t-shirt at the bookstore, or take in a performance at the beautiful Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.
You can also connect to UM-St. Louis virtually. I encourage you to join River's Edge, the Alumni Association's online community. For those of you who are already members, update your profile so your classmates can find you. Check the site often to learn about upcoming events and keep current on Alumni Association and University news. (Be sure to read the paragraph below about some exciting changes to the community!)
It's a great time to be an UMSL alum. Go ahead, be proud!
Sincerely,
Susan Cohen

CHANGES TO ONLINE COMMUNITY
Recently we made some changes to our online community and we're very excited to announce several new social networking features that we think will bring our community together. Here are a few highlights of what's new.
Public and Private Profiles. When friends come to find you, why have a boring profile page? Now you can customize your profile page; control the layout and content of your page to reflect your personality; bring in content from around the web like news feeds, YouTube® videos, Flickr® photos and even your Facebook® badge. Build a page for your friends, other members of the community or for the rest of the world - you control it all.
Blogs and Bookmarking. Been itching to set up your own blog? Now you can in our community. Write posts, automatically notify friends, and subscribe to a blog news feed. We've also added tagging and single-click, popular bookmarking tools, to help you build traffic from your Facebook page or sites like del.icio.us and stumbleupon.
Widgets, Gadgets and Feeds. Your profile page can also include content from around the web. Sport the latest Google™ gadgets, feed content from ESPN®, or the most popular YouTube videos on your profile page. Make it the one place it all comes together for you and your friends.
UMSL RE-ACCREDITATION SURVEY
Last month, UMSL announced that it is undertaking a self-study for re-accreditation. Thanks to everyone who has already taken this survey. If you have not, we want to hear from you. This is a once-every-ten-years opportunity for alumni to provide feedback to the University regarding your educational experiences. Your anonymous feedback will be invaluable to strengthening our campus programs and support services. If you haven't done so already, please click on this link and take a few minutes to share your comments.
