Why does the university need your contribution?
Our students are arriving on campus prepared for their college experience. In fact, the average ACT for our most recent freshmen class is the highest in school history, and higher than the national average for peer institutions. In other words, we are attracting a higher caliber of student, and they are expecting a high-caliber experience. Now, it is up to us to deliver.
The challenge is figuring out how to do more with less.
For much of the past decade UMSL has experienced a decrease in its recurring, base allocations from the state. As a result, the most immediate goals of this journey--recruiting and retaining top faculty, increasing need- and merit-based scholarships, and funding graduate student fellowships--simply cannot be achieved without private gift support.
