UMSL 28

In 1959 The Normandy Board of Education assembled a group of 28 men and women to work together to bring a public institution of higher education to the St. Louis region. This group of community leaders, business men and women and legislators became known as the Committee of 28, and they played a key role in changing the landscape of a golf course into the University of Missouri- St. Louis and providing higher education to more than 85,000 students.

To honor the legacy of the Committee of 28 and the amazing students who will lead UMSL into the future, UMSL’s Student Alumni Association has established the UMSL 28 Award to recognize 28 outstanding students and the impact they have had in the UMSL community each year. Honorees are chosen for the same attributes seen in the original Committee of 28, dedication to higher learning, leadership and service to the community. Winners are selected from a variety of majors and student organizations on campus. Winners of the UMSL 28 Award also select a faculty or staff member who has influenced them during their time at UMSL to be recognized at the UMSL 28 recognition dinner.

UMSL faculty, staff, students and community partners can nominate a current undergraduate student using the link below and students can apply directly themselves. If you have questions about nominating or applying for this award please contact James Page at jpage@umsl.edu. The UMSL 28 award winners will be announced in early April and honored in an official ceremony on April 30th.
