A Brighter Future for UMSL Alumni

There are over 87,000 UMSL alumni living throughout the United States and the world with 70% of those alumni living in the St. Louis regional area. Currently less than 3% of our alumni are official members of the Association.

UMSL is not the only university experiencing a decline in Alumni Association memberships. Throughout the country, alumni associations – like ours - are examining their futures and shifting their focus to inclusive programs that engage alumni in more meaningful and relevant ways. Many of these alumni associations have moved to inclusive membership model where all alumni – by virtue of their degrees – are automatically members of the alumni association. It is our goal to move in this direction, but before we make this decision, we must work with the university and our alumni in developing a sustainable funding plan so that we can exponentially grow in our alumni engagement opportunities and programs.

Until we are ready to launch a new membership model and funding plan, we must rely on our annual memberships to sustain our programming in this interim period. We anticipate if we move to an inclusive membership model, this plan would not be implemented until the Fall of 2015.

During this time of study and transition, your support through your annual membership renewal is especially meaningful and appreciated. We are committed to keeping you fully informed of any official decisions made by the Alumni Association’s governing board of directors.
